ICONS attends the National Conference on Science Communication at SISSA
Press Release -
ICONS takes part in the National Conference on Science Communication organised by SISSA in Trieste.
ICONS contributes with a plenary talk and a speed-networking format: two complementary moments to showcase the organisation’s role and methodologies in European projects, from impact evaluation to co-creation with partners.
Representing ICONS will be Ilaria Bonetti, project management officer, and Sara Lazzarin, senior communication & dissemination officer.
Evaluating the impact of communication
On 3 December, from 11:45 to 12:30 CET, Ilaria Bonetti will be a panelist in the session “Impact evaluation: a multidimensional and integrated framework” (“Valutazione dell’impatto: un quadro multidimensionale e integrato”). In her talk, she will present the ICONS approach to CEI-based impact analysis, the open-access tool developed by ICONS to structurally measure the impact of communication. The presentation will be accompanied by a use case, allowing participants to follow how the framework is applied.
“Aliens or partners?”
On the same day, Sara Lazzarin will take part in two speed-networking sessions (10:15–10:45 CET and 15:45–16:15 CET) with a contribution entitled:
”We science communicators in EU projects: aliens or partners?” ( “Noi comunicatori scientifici nei progetti EU: alieni o partner?”).
During the meetings, ICONS will engage with participants to explore how communicators are perceived within European projects and what conditions enable them to become genuine strategic partners.
To enhance the interactivity of the conversation, Sara will use a custom tarot-style deck of cards specifically designed for the initiative. Each card represents one aspect of communication dynamics in R&I projects (perceptions, data-driven strategies, collaboration with partners, trust-building, impact measurement, etc.). The cards provide a visual and engaging framework for the discussion, showcasing ICONS’ approach to communication (data, co-creation, training), and fostering the active engagement. Card after card, the “aliens or partners” metaphor becomes the common thread of the exchange: the goal is to overturn the idea of the communicator as an “outsider” and instead highlight their role as a team member, operational ally and impact facilitator in European research and innovation projects.
By taking part in the SISSA Conference, ICONS reaffirms its commitment to contributing to the debate on science communication, sharing methods, tools and experimental formats designed to strengthen the connection between research, communication and social impact.
